The happy land

The gun totting children
and the play-acting soldiers
watch the tennis players
hit the multi-colored ball
across the barbed wires;
The dictators with tin hats
play monopoly
with fat men with deep pockets
as the pink foreigners
keep the scores;
The wise men on the chess board
play the world cup
and the beggars cheer the white knight
as they watch the match
standing outside the TV shops;
The judges love to help
the lawyers when they play checkers
against the one-eyed Chinamen
as the cops scratch and fret
and look at their watches;
We live in the happy land –
here the hungry mongrels dream
of milk bottles on mango trees
and the farmers wait
for the earthworms to till the fields.
